Rohin Francis (Medlife Crisis)
Real name: Rohin Francis
British NHS Consultant Interventional Cardiologist and doctoral researcher at University College London. Runs the Medlife Crisis YouTube channel, which covers cardiology, medical research methodology, and health claims.
Biography
Rohin Francis is a British Consultant Interventional Cardiologist working in the NHS at the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre, and a doctoral researcher at University College London where his PhD research focuses on the use of cardiac MRI to image acute myocardial infarction. He trained at St George's Hospital Medical School, University of London, and completed cardiology specialist training through the Cambridge Deanery. Under the name Medlife Crisis, he has built a large YouTube audience by covering topics that, in his words, "don't get covered elsewhere" — including the limitations of medical research, forgotten medical history, and systematic problems in how modern medicine evaluates evidence.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Francis expanded his content to directly address misinformation, making videos on the evidence for various treatments, the mechanics of vaccine development, and the statistical problems that lead researchers and the public to draw wrong conclusions from studies. His channel is distinguished from many medical YouTube accounts by its willingness to criticize mainstream medical practices when the evidence warrants, and by its consistent emphasis on the quality and interpretation of research rather than simple fact-checking. He has also covered pseudoscientific modalities like homeopathy with detailed mechanistic refutations.
Francis brings a combination of frontline NHS clinical practice and active academic research to his science communication, giving his explanations a grounding that distinguishes him from commentators without ongoing clinical or research roles. His channel has grown to approach one million subscribers, and he is recognized in the cardiology community as well as the broader science communication world.
