Biography
Kyle Hill is an American science communicator, educator, and media personality whose work focuses on making scientific concepts accessible through pop culture, engineering, and direct engagement with public misconceptions. He holds a BS in civil and environmental engineering and an MA in science communication, both from Marquette University, and began building his public profile by writing for Scientific American and Nerdist before transitioning to YouTube.
Hill first gained wide recognition as the creator and host of the Because Science series for Nerdist, where he applied real physics and engineering to questions from superhero films and science fiction—the series accumulated over 300 million views. After departing Because Science in 2020, he launched THE FACILITY, his own independent channel, which reached one million subscribers within 18 months. His work there has increasingly focused on nuclear energy advocacy and radiation literacy: his video documenting his visit to a nuclear power plant and kissing a spent fuel storage cask—to demonstrate that properly contained nuclear waste poses no meaningful public health risk—attracted over a million views and exemplifies his evidence-based approach to a highly politicised topic.
Hill has served as a science communication advisor to the White House, consulted with the US Department of Energy on nuclear communications, and spoken at the International Atomic Energy Agency and the American Nuclear Society. He was named Science Influencer of the Year by Texas Tech University in 2020 and listed by WIRED as one of the top science communicators to follow. His Half-Life Histories documentary mini-series on nuclear weapons and disasters stands as some of the most thorough science communication on the topic available on YouTube.
